Frequently asked questions
What are the most common questions people ask you about visiting the gardens or the passport scheme?
Visitors frequently ask about opening times, accessibility for wheelchairs and pushchairs, whether dogs are allowed, parking availability and costs, and the best time of year to visit specific gardens. Regarding the passport scheme, common questions include how to obtain a passport, how to redeem rewards, and the validity period of the passport.
What important details do visitors often need to know before they go, or about how the passport scheme works?
Before visiting, it's important to check individual garden websites for specific opening hours, ticket prices, and any pre-booking requirements. For the passport scheme, visitors should know that passports can be collected at any participating garden. Each visit to a different participating garden counts as one stamp. Upon collecting four stamps, visitors can redeem their complimentary 'tea for two' at any participating garden's café or tearoom. Please note that the 'tea for two' offer usually includes a pot of tea and a cake or scone for two people.
Are there any common problems or confusions visitors experience that we can help clear up here?
A common confusion is whether stamps can be collected for repeat visits to the same garden; the scheme is designed for visits to different gardens to encourage exploration. Another point of clarity is that the 'tea for two' reward is for a single redemption per completed passport, and cannot be exchanged for cash or other goods. Some visitors also mistakenly believe the passport grants free entry to gardens; it is a reward scheme for subsequent visits, not an entry ticket. Always check the specific terms and conditions for each garden when planning your visit.
Are the gardens accessible?
Most of our gardens offer good accessibility for visitors with mobility issues, including wheelchair and pushchair access to many areas. However, some historical sites or natural landscapes may have uneven paths or steps. We recommend checking the individual garden's website or contacting them directly for specific accessibility information to ensure a comfortable visit.
Can I bring my dog to the gardens?
Policies on dogs vary greatly among the gardens. Some gardens welcome well-behaved dogs on leads in specific areas, while others may only allow assistance dogs. To avoid disappointment, please check the pet policy on the individual garden's website before your visit.
How do I get a garden passport?
You can pick up a Cheshire Gardens of Distinction passport at the entrance or reception area of any participating garden during your visit. They are typically available free of charge and are ready to be stamped upon your first visit.
What if I lose my passport?
Unfortunately, lost passports cannot be replaced, and stamps cannot be transferred from a lost passport to a new one. We recommend keeping your passport in a safe place to ensure you don't miss out on your 'tea for two' reward.
